Conference Information

Welcome to the SAAFECS 2022 Virtual Conference Website Page

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about many changes affecting consumers and the contexts in which they live, work and learn. Consumer Scientists across the globe have adapted to the challenges of the pandemic and continue to advance Consumer Sciences in their respective fields. The conference organising team invites all Consumer Scientists, Home Economists, educators in these disciplines, teachers of Consumer Studies and Home Economics, Hospitality Studies, and all related disciplines to join us for the 15th International SAAFECS Virtual Conference.

The purpose of the conference is to engage with researchers, academics, educators and industry on the latest research emerging from the different fields of specialisation in Consumer Sciences. As the conference will be hosted virtually, it is a valuable opportunity to extend this invitation to all our international and national colleagues and those interested in joining us. We also invite students and learners to attend the SAAFECS Conference, as this is an opportunity to experience the variety of contexts that form Consumer Sciences. A special invitation is extended to all Home Economists across the globe to join us and share their research and experiences since Consumer Sciences has a deep-rooted past in Home Economics and still values the relationship to this discipline.

The theme of this conference is Consumer Sciences at a Distance: Creating Social and Economic Value, representing the introspection of the Consumer Sciences discipline and how it is able to support and understand the consumer within different social and economic environments. Research and insight from different cultures, perspectives and approaches will significantly contribute to the conference theme. International and national contributions to this theme will promote the value Consumer Sciences brings to the discipline and those attending the conference.

We invite you to participate, through oral or poster presentations, in the virtual conference brought to you by SAAFECS in 2022, and look forward to a network of contributors.

We are looking forward to meeting you.

Kind regards

Prof. EL Kempen

SAAFECS President and Conference Chair
