Abstract Submissions

 

The Scientific Programme Committee is pleased to invite you to submit an abstract(s) for the 15th International Conference of the South African Association of Family Ecology and Consumer Sciences to be held Virtually from 10 – 12 May 2022.

Abstract submission guidelines

Abstracts of original, topical and current research may be submitted for oral paper or poster presentation. Research should not have been presented at previous conferences or be under review at another conference. Research papers (articles) that have been published but not presented at a conference will be accepted as oral paper presentations or posters. The purpose of the conference is to allow researchers to share their research through another platform and allow researcher engagement, which is not always possible through journal publications. If you do not intend to present your research at the conference, you may attend the conference to listen and engage with researchers during the paper presentations you attend.

Abstract themes for the conference

 

The following themes are presented at the conference for which you may prepare your abstract. You will be required to indicate the theme for which you are submitting your abstract:

Entrepreneurship

Hospitality Management

Education/Teaching and Learning in Consumer Sciences and Consumer Studies

Abstract criteria for submission
Abstracts are submitted electronically via the submission page on the conference web page on the SAAFECS website. The link will be provided below once you have ensured your abstract meets the following criteria:

  1. Title of the research, not exceeding 20 words.
  2. Six keywords that are different from the title of the research to allow for easy detection of your work. These can be single words or double words.
  3. Introduction, in which a brief background of the research is given, the problem is stated, and the purpose or aim of the research is emphasised.
  4. Methodology, where a brief description of the methodology used in the research is provided. Quantitative, qualitative and mixed-method research
         is accepted.
  5. Results/Findings and Discussion section should give a brief overview of the main findings.
  6. Conclusions, Recommendations and Contributions of the research should be presented as the final section of the abstract.
         The conclusions should present the general interpretation of the research, with specific contributions highlighted from the study.
          Recommendations should be related to future research or its implementation by manufacturers, government, policy, education or any related
         field that may benefit from the study’s outcome. Conclusions that state “results will be presented” or “findings will be discussed” are not acceptable.
  7. References referred to in the abstract should be included. The reference list is not included in the word count.
  8. The Introduction, Methodology Results/Findings and Discussion, and Conclusions, Recommendations and Contributions should
         not be less than 500 words or more than 700 words. The words ‘introduction’, ‘methodology’, ‘results’ etc. should not be included in your abstract.
         The reference list is submitted separately.
  9. At least one author of the abstract should be registered to attend the conference to present the oral paper or poster.
         Failure to register will result in the abstract being withdrawn from the programme.
  10. All authors contributing to the research submitted in the abstract should be included in the electronic submission.
  11. The presenting author of the oral paper or poster should be indicated.

Students who have completed their data collection and analysis are encouraged to present their research at the SAAFECS conference.

Abstract review

1. Abstracts will be reviewed through a blind review process, after which the Scientific Committee will consider the review.

2. The committee reserves the right to accept or reject any abstract or recommend the abstract for a poster presentation or another theme.

3. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified and receive information regarding their presentation by 28 February 2022.

4. All presenting authors will be informed in writing of the exact time and date of their presentation.

5. Poster presenters will be notified of the format of the poster.

Oral presentation information

Pre-recording of oral presentations is mandatory.

Guidelines will be given to presenting authors during the confirmation of their acceptance.
